About Ben
My name is Ben Dickerson and I specialize in helping men to create stability in their families by addressing marital strife, parenting challenges, sexual addictions, depression, and anxiety. In my twenty years teaching at the K-12 and college levels, students often wanted to talk with me privately about things that came up in class, and they would open up to me about personal matters and ask for help. I find that it is hard to completely separate the academic search for meaning and significance, exploration of values, etc., from the subjective and personal ways in which we interpret the world around us, and that is what led to my decision to leave the classroom and become a licensed, full-time, therapist.
I have lived in AZ for most of my life. I spent twenty-years teaching at the K-12 and college levels. I have been married for 20 years and I have 2 kids and lots of animals. Outside of counseling, I love reading and listening to books, spending time with my family and friends, watching movies, and learning new things.

Working with Ben Dickerson has been a wonderful experience for both myself and my 7 year old adopted grandson. My grandson has PTSD from neglect and abuse. He also has ADHD and severe attachment issues. Asher went through a year of weekly Play Therapy as well as having a Behavioral Coach and weekly sessions in my home with a Child Therapist for two years. None of these things resulted in any measurable benefit for my grandson.
I have seen major changes in Asher and his behavior since he started weekly counseling with Ben. He is able to talk about some of his painful emotions which I believe is the start of his beginning to heal. Ben has been able to connect with Asher on a level that is meaningful to him. Ben has also done counseling with my husband and I which has helped us to understand Asher’s behaviors and respond to him with boundaries, consistency and compassion. He has connected me with multiple resources that have helped Asher immensely. Ben is kind, patient and genuinely cares about his clients and their families. Ben is an answer to prayer in my grandson's life as well as in the lives of our family.

After my first session with Ben, I was very happy that I chose him. Ben has been very easy to talk to and I’ve felt comfortable. He is honest and forthright and my experience working with him has been incredibly rewarding. Ben treats our sessions with respect, care, and insight; he creates a non-judgmental environment, and helps make sense of what can seem like chaos. I trusted him! He taught me the most valuable piece of information – that I am in control of my life and choices, and I have value. I left every session with the results and feeling progress. I highly recommend Ben.

Before starting to meet with Ben, I had gone to counseling before. I thought the process had helped me … [but] lurking behind negative self-talk and anxiety was trauma. … After a 20-minute phone call I felt comfortable sharing my life story with him. …
I truly believe God used Ben to help me to drop chains I had carried for years that he had broken years before that. I now walk freely in the life Jesus has given to me. I have not had an anxiety attack in months. … I wish I could have started my journey in counseling with Ben as I would have been able to gain skills to face issues in life while at the same time go back to the root cause of the struggles I was facing.
If you are living a “good” life but see yourself holding back because of stress, fear, or anxiety, I highly recommend working with Ben. You have nothing to lose except chains from your past you were never meant to carry.
