Repair Attempts
After an argument, it can be difficult to come back together. A really simple disagreement can end up ruining what was supposed to be an enjoyable date night.
At these times, we need to make repair attempts, and we also need to recognize when our partner is making one.
I might say, “Hey, I’m sorry that came out like that. It might take some time to work through this later, but do you think we could redeem the time and still enjoy our evening?”
Or if your partner says, “I really wish that hadn’t happened,” recognize that they may be trying to repair.
Don’t require everything to be completely worked out before you agree to try to make the best of things. Some issues need more conversation later. But not every conflict has to take the rest of the evening with it.
